Wag the Dog blog has the whole story; but here is the biggie.
Seeking to overturn the ban at Supreme Court level in Ontario
by Lori Gray on Fri 17 Apr 2009 08:57 PM EDT
The official press release hit the press yesterday. We have filed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
The public opinion was always in our favor but change has tipped even more in our favor since 2005. We see evidence of it at every event we attend (of which we have done or attended over 200 events since 2004). The overwhelming public opinion is firmly behind us and we hope the SCC will see through this piece of crap and overturn the law.

Dora at the Sportsman's Show
Dora was a good girl at the Sportsman's Show; she put up with the other dogs and the people from about 7:00 a.m. Saturday to 5:00 p.m.; pretty good for a reactive female 9 mos. old puppy. Sunday was a bit tetchier; she owned the area and just wanted all the dogs to leave (except the wee ones; she likes them). She did however behave herself and gave fair warning of who she wasn't going to like.
She placed behind a 3 year old mature female in all classes; except for the last class for her on Sunday; she beat the female for Best Female and then went Best of Opposite. She looked really tight; cause she was a little pissed by then!

Long, long overdue update
Well, Dora is 8 mos. old now and Kim is 3.
Dora is developing into a dog for all purposes.
Very well built, steady in temperament; protective when I'm at the ATM, in the van or on our property.
She's a very good dog with the kids, the family and fits in great.
She will be shown at the Toronto Sportsman's Show March 21, 22, 2009; hopefully she will do well; she certainly is a looker.

Thanks to all who have posted and admired my girls
Thanks for all the great compliments guys; I'm not sure who I love more --- shshsh - don't tell either of them!
They are so different dogs; different drives; attitudes.
I will say you can tell the ~bull~ type in Dora the Boerboel; much of what she does and how she acts really reminds me of my old Indy (the buckskin in the first pics) and my g.f.'s old rednose girl. I think I'll have some bull in my house from now on; kinda forgot how much I love the mush heads.
The Central asian; Kimpossible is more sensitive; can be very interesting to work with if you offend her; plus she's still maturing mentally and she'll be 3 in January; a bit odd; what worked last month obedience wise may not do it this month. Her protective drives keep changing too; very tough to deal with sometimes; I will admit she does frustrate me. I think I understand bull drives better.
Dora is a cakewalk; definitely easier to predict; very close guarder ~ never more than 10 m radius and very driven to join up if we get separated ~ which I found out from another Boerboel breeder is a breed trait; but not clingy. Kim is a wide guarder (at least a 30-40 m. radius when we walk) but needy as hell - should do me very well as a guard combination.

Proudfoot's Tad Bit O Tina

Introducing Dora.
Dora is daughter of Sunjika's Muskoka Gator X Afrika's Tina CGC,OB1,BST,HIC; a wise crossing of some interesting Boerboel bloodlines. Gator is a stunning male; very solid crossed with the tighter; very correct Hannah.
I was contacted by Dora's breeder, Marcella Burgess to custom craft some kennel collars for her; to go home with a litter of puppies. We got to talking; she found out about my interests; especially dog sports; such as conformation, obedience and protection work and after a couple months of back-and-forth chatting; she proposed my adoption of one of her Boerboels.
I was intrigued to say the least; I had always admired the attitude and look of the South African mastiff breed; but had never met one in person. Initially she had wanted me to take on an older bitch; put some time and titles into her; but since the bitch was already on a co-ownership it was decided that pick-female of the next litter would come home with me on a co-ownership basis.
Should Dora pass all health tests and become titled in any appropriate venues and we find a male that compliments her; she shall be bred to continue her line.

Why this blog?

Hi, I'm Jen; also known as the First Dog.
I am the proud owner of a Central Asian Shepherd (CAS), and a South African Boerboel (SAB).
Kim (Foxfire Kim Possible) the CAS and Dora (Proudfoot's Tad Bit O' Tina) the SAB are my two dogs.
I am mom to two kids, wife to one husband and owner of 2 dogs, 1 horse, and one crazy cat. I am employed by a local company; teach driver's education and have a small business; First Dog Off the Porch Custom Dog Gear, where I hand-craft custom leather dog gear and other leather items.
I originally purchased Kim because my old APBT (RIP Indy) passed on and I wanted a totally different breed that wouldn't remind me of him. I was researching guardian breeds and came across the Central Asian Shepherd; intriguing; and kept going with my research. I found FoxFire Farms on the internet; contacted breeder Jeannine DePalma about upcoming litters and was invited to meet her dogs at a show she was managing. We met at the show and she invited me back to her home to view all her dogs; and make a decision as to whether I was suited to the CAS breed or not.
Kim's Sire (Dad) Multi CH Cozemo Legend of the Falls is a gorgeous male; with amazing presence; I fell in love immediately. Kim's Dam (Mom) Multi CH FoxFire's J-Lo is a stunning bitch; harder in temperament than Coz; but a very nice dog nevertheless.
I put myself on the list for a Cozemo baby; he produced the best dogs for family temperament; and since I live in an urban environment and had 2 kids; Jeannine decided this would be my best combination.
Colour didn't matter; but I did want a female; wanted to try something different than my old dog Indy.
January 4, 2006, Kim arrived; shortest and last puppy born.
8 weeks later, I brought her home and my journey with a Central Asian Shepherd was begun.
See my next post for the arrival of Dora, South African Boerboel.
